Wireguard over TCP (linuxserver docker)
Hi, I would like to use Wireguard over TCP. I'm trying to reach my server from a restrictive network and UDP is being blocked. TCP is not blocked in certain ports though, and I would like to open a VPN server that listen on those over TCP. I'm using the wireguard Linuxserver docker image. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Slow Tailscale speed
I'm only getting an average of 9.21 Mbps from my Synology NAS to my remote Mac device. My NAS is connected to LAN with an internet speed of +-300Mbps. I don't expect 300Mbps through Tailscale, but a 80-100Mbps would suffice. - Both are on 1.44.0 - It's a direct connection, no derp - Average ping is 33ms I'm clueless, anyone? Thanks

What are things you would rather host on a VPS as opposed to a local machine?
Hey, I was thinking about getting a VPS and hosting my own single user Lemmy instance. I am trying to think of other things to host. I already have some old hardware running unRAID with Plex, the *arrs, Kavita and home assistant. This is pushing my hardware to the limit but I still want to mess around with some self hosted things. Is there anything you would rather host on a rented server as opposed to a server sitting at your home?

Lemmy on a raspberry pi
Does anyone run their own Lemmy instance on a pi? How was the process of setting it up? Were there any pitfalls? How is performance? [Edit] So a lot of testing around. Compiling from scratch, etc, etc... So far i have tried - installing lemmy using rootless docker (on 0.17.3) - compiling the image 0.18 docker image as arm rootless docker did not work well for me. lots of systemd issues and i gave up after running into a lot of issues. I tried rootless docker for security reasons. minimal permissions, etc. When trying to compile the latest lemmy image in arm, i ran into issues with muslrust not having an arm version. It might be worth investigating rewriting the docker file from 0.17.3 to work with 0.18.0 but i haven't investigated that fully yet! I tried compiling the latest image because i wanted to be able to use the latest features At the moment, I'm trying to set lemmy to run under bare metal. Im currently attempting to compile lemmy under arm. If that works, i'll start setting up .service files to start up lemmy and pictrs.

Overview Dashboard
Hello! Are there any dashboards that work with Proxmox, VMs in proxmox, networking equipment, and maybe an iDRAC(optional)? I'd like to see things such as traffic, resource usage, power usage, etc. While having a way to embed links to my self hosted sites.

Migrate from Lastpass to self hosted Bitwarden export issues with solution
Hi all Since some days ago I've being experimenting running [vaultwarden](https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden) locally, and with pleasure I'm ready to move all my password from Lastpass (around 400). However, since I'm a business user, Lastpass introduce quite some difficulties in order to export your passwords. The internet is full of tricks you can try; if they work for you, congratulations, if not, you can try what I will be suggesting in the next following lines. This feels good, since a lot of this recommendations are suggested in reddit, neither of them worked for me so the new-good-one that made the trick for me will be here in lemmy and not in reddit 🤟 To my knowledge the first suggestion (that didn't work) for me, is to export using the export option of the vault. This is disabled for business users. The second suggestion is to use the browser extension, via de Account -> Fix a problem yourself option (great name btw Lastpass, jesus...). So here comes what worked for me: In my current LastPass plan I can link a personal account to my vault, so I created a shared folder in my business account, moved all my passwords, and from my personal account I was able to export them from the vault. Now I have a CSV that can be imported in my selfhosted Bitwarden and get rid of LastPass at once. Hope this can help anybody else!

Help with Proxmox
Hi I need some help with Proxmox. If you can please redirect me to useful ressources (I read the official Doku but it didn't really help) I am having problem understanding the different types of storages and how to access them in a vm for example. Example words are: - ZFS, ISCI, LVM, LVM-thin... - Bus Controller (Virtio SCSI, IDE,... ) I feel like these are basic topics but I don't seem to understand anything. My latest problem was me trying to pass a third of an ssd (1TB) an another 128 GB from another ssd. I wanted to use the small volume as boot and the big volume as slow storage in a Windows vm but I got an error message about a bus beeing used multiple times. [sorry I don't have the config anymore] So if someone could redirect me to sth which would help me understand the whole storage virtualization and storage config for vms topic, I would be very grateful. Thank you in advanced kind stranger.

Drive setup advice
Hello selfhosted lemmy community! I've been running the following setup for a while now but my backup drive is running out of space. - 2x 4TB drives in a zfs mirror - 1x 1TB backup drive - 1x 256GB boot ssd The zfs pool is rsynced to the backup drive nightly which is then uploaded to blackblaze. As I'm using more than 1 TB in the zfs pool, it can't be backed up anymore. I'm looking for some advice on how to reuse the same drives in a better configuration. My current idea is to get rid of the zfs pool, use one of the 4TB drives as the main drive and one as the backup one. The 1TB drive will then not be used anymore. Appreciate any advice or feedback!

How do you guys self host?
I've been doing small hosting off and on for a while. Mainly for accessing files at home and the occasional Minecraft server. Not smart, as I've never used a specialized router. I used to use ddwrt, but now it's impossible to flash most consumer grade routers. id like to learn more stuff about cyber security, host other stuff, maybe host a website, but I'm just a guy who lives in an apartment. I'm stuck with 1 Internet service that claims it will terminate my service if they find me to be hosting anything. They must be semi-lax with that rule, because i haven't gotten terminated for using ssh and cockpit. Do you guys own a house, or are just fortunate enough to have access to an ISP that will let you host your own stuff?

selfhosting on windows server?
Hi, I can spin up for free a Windows VPS (win server 2016 with graphical interface or win server 2022 core version since it has only 1GB of RAM). The problem is that outside of Linux I have absolutely no experience. I would like to try hosting something also on Windows server just to take away some load from other machines or even just to learn something new. Therefore I have the following questions: *Is there any starting resource for windows selfhosting you can recommend? I would love if a list like the awesome selfhosted existed for services that can run on windows. *Is there anything non-enterprise for which a windows server would provide any advantage over Linux? *Does anyone self hosts on windows server? Can I ask what you use it for? Thanks

Choosing an hypervisor
Hello everyone! During one of those illuminated evenings, I got the idea to move my small server in Scaleway to some more powerful server in Hetzner. If I will make the move, I am thinking of splitting the server in various VMs, to host different services that belongs to different trust boundaries, for example: * A Lemmy/writefreely instance * Vaultwarden/Gitea * Wireguard tunnel to my home infrastructure * Blogs, and other convenience services In order to achieve the best level of separation, I was thinking of using VMs. My default choice would be Proxmox, because I used it in the past, and because I generally trust it, however I am trying to evaluate multiple options, and maybe someone has good or better experiences to share. Other options I thought about are: * Run everything in Docker. I am going to do this nevertheless, but Docker escapes are always possible, especially with public facing images that I did not write myself and/or that require a host volume. * KVM directly? I am OK even without a GUI to be honest. I am not aware if there is some ansible module or even better Terraform provider for this, it would be great. (EDIT: I found https://registry.terraform.io/providers/dmacvicar/libvirt/0.7.1 which seems awesome!) * ESxi? I have no experience with this solution. Any idea or recommendation?

Is there a video that will tell me how to set up our own server as if I were 5 years old?
I am not a computer engineer or a software developer. I have never set up a server in my life. I want to set up a server on my old computer by watching videos and doing the same things that were done. Is there a video that will tell me how to set up our own server as if I were 5 years old? Edit: To host my own lemmy account
