It’s fun! Crank up the speed and traffic, and it gets ridiculous trying to get your chicken across! Great head-to-head game, wish we had had this one at home when I was a kid.

I’ll have to check that one out!

Love finding awesome games for old systems that I had no idea existed, my kid and I are going to have a blast with this one!

IX might be my favorite of all time, and I would have camped out overnight to have that on something like the DS.

At least we’re getting some re-releases on the Switch now. 🤷

I’ve been eyeing the collection on Switch! Just hard to justify when I have so many other ways to play those games already. My money is finite, unfortunately.

I do love the soundtracks though, and that also makes it tempting. I play a lot of theatrythm on both 3DS and Switch.

I wish! I still don’t have a PSP or Vita 😮‍💨

Just GBA, Square Enix did all these releases for it and I’m a big fan of the series and the system. Just threw Tactics in because it’s also “Final Fantasy” on the GBA. And figured I’d put the DS III in there too for the hell of it.

I have the original Tactics installed on my PS Classic. 🤷

It took years grabbing these as they've popped up for decent prices, just recently grabbed V to finish it off. Wish III had been released as a GBA cart.

They’re a lot of fun!

I’m sure it’s not for everyone though, they do make great display pieces too!

Oh, it’s right there… on my wishlist.

I do have it on my 3DS though as part of that Ambassador program. Not the same as having the cart, so I still want to track it down sometime.

I definitely have some options when I need a GBA fix!

I can relate to that. Same story, but for Virtual Boy’s NA Jack Bros. Way too expensive to get now, but I got it way back when and thought I was paying too much at the time!

I know! 😭

It’s been on the list for a while, but there are just too many great games in the GBA library. It’s difficult to track down every cart I want (cause I kinda want all of them)

If you have to have dedicated carts of them - I’d say to go for it!

If all you need is to play them again - I would strongly recommend getting a flash cart instead. Repros can be pretty unreliable.

I wish I could have all of them! Maybe some day…

I was never really interested in any Pokemon game after the first two gens. They just didn’t feel like different enough games to me. So with GBA, I only grabbed the remakes of the first gen when they came out.

It’s a great game! And Treasure seemed to work in every graphical trick they could get out of the system. There’s some impressive and chaotic graphics in that game.

Just dumped out my small bin of GBA games.

Nice! I had seen a couple rom hacks for the originals that add the QoL changes, but I don’t remember seeing the rearranged game. I’ll have to look into it!

Pokémon? Probably Red, it was my first (bought when it came out) and I have the most nostalgia for that one.

Of all those carts? I don’t think I could choose. Probably just plain old Tetris, but there are so many great games.

I had to settle for a cart with some label damage to experience it on original hardware.

It’s on the Nintendo Switch online service now though, that might be an option?

It has a Bible matching game and a Bible version of hangman, and I’ve always liked hangman 👍

They were alphabetized in the bins 😅

I never grabbed Crystal. In hindsight - I should have, probably not something I’ll buy for what it goes for now.

The empty cases (and bins that I keep my games in):

Took all my games out of their protective cases and dumped them out on the table. Sometimes it's just satisfying to rummage through a bunch of carts, hold them in your hands, and admire the label art. Does anyone else periodically do this with their physical games?

Not the same as the Genesis version (IIRC), but I believe the Master System’s game is the same as this Game Gear version.

Still a fun little platformer if you are seeing it for cheap somewhere.

Agreed. Aladdin was a lot of fun to get through!

I made it through a decent amount of Lion King, but I’ve never beaten it.

It’s great! So is Chaos.

Weirdly though, my favorite is still the first one.

Sonic 2 on the GG is absolute garbage.

I kept hearing it was a “hidden gem”, but was honestly kind of disappointed with it. The music is great and the game is okay, but I think every other Disney licensed game I’ve tracked down so far for the Game Gear is better than the Lion King.

Years ago I inherited my wife's family's Game Gear. After a recap, and replacing the backlight, I started tracking down games to play on it. It's been great exploring a whole library of games that I skipped out on as a kid! (I was a Nintendo kid) Now I have a nice little library of carts to play on this beast of a 90's handheld.

Thanks!

I have all 14 North American releases (loose carts) and a loose copy of V-Tetris. 👍

I had several CIB, but I traded/sold the boxes and manuals away. I’m not a collector - just a gamer and I don’t care about having anything to display.

I’ve always loved it, didn’t get one as a kid - but drooled over store kiosks and dreamed.

Shortly after I got married, my (then new) wife surprised me with one after hearing me make a comment once about how cool I thought they were as a kid.

She then helped me track down every NA game for it over the course of that next year or so.

The system means a lot more to me now. 🙂

Have to expect this comment in some form or other whenever you post about the Virtual Boy on the internet. 😅

I really only got into soldering and electronics repair in order to maintain my old systems. Gotta take care of this stuff!

No idea! Good question, that thought hadn’t occurred to me. 🤔

I guess I’ll have to make sure to check on on it periodically if I store it away.

Probably a good question to bring up in the Virtual Boy community, not sure if the Blockbuster cases did any damage to the systems as the foam in those decayed?

I’ve always been nervous about taking it out of my house (like when someone I know really wants to try one out), but now I feel so much better about it. I’ve been able to easily take this with me on several trips now just to have it with me!

I definitely want more. I have another Virtual Boy that would be nice to store like this too, and I’d love to make one for my Game Boy(s) and another for Game Gear.

I mean… I guess so. But if you need a case for your Virtual Boy, no need to wait for me to die - there are tons of cases readily available at sites like Amazon that you can get to make your own!

One of the best games in the (small) library!

The system still has a pretty loyal and active fan community around it. There’s been some impressive new homebrew and hardware accessories that have been released in recent years.

I made it earlier this year, thought I would share. Now my VB can safely travel with me!
