Edward from Fullmetal Alchemist: not a blunder
Lust from Fullmetal Alchemist: blunder

Things like asteroids, galactic dust and the like are already accounted for in the baryonic (ie ordinary) matter. We can estimate it for example measuring the absorption of different wavelengths of light, or extrapolating the local abundance of asteroids. There are theories like the MACHO that propose that we are missing some, but in general it is understood they can only account for a tiny fraction of the missing mass.

The predominant hypothesis is that dark matter is composed by some unidentified particles, that have the same thermodynamic properties as usual matter (basically that their energy is proportional to the volume), but that don’t interact (or interact very weakly) with normal matter.

“Hubble constant” is a misnomer, and an old fashioned term. Cosmologist actually use the term “Hubble parameter” (which is in general time dependent except in very specific models which only contain dark energy), and denote its present value as H0.

Instagram has 2 billion active users. So only 1.5% of users have activated Threads.

These numbers aren’t extremely high, we just don’t realize the scale of the world outside our little fedi-bubble.

XMPP did not exist on its own outside of nerd circles, while ActivityPub enjoys the support and brand recognition of Mastodon.

I love Mastodon and the Fediverse, but to pretend that we are not a nerd circle is a bit disingenuous.

They are planning to federate via AP unlike Bluesky

We know that they are using ActivityPub. Afaik, we don’t know if they are planning to federate with non-Meta instances (or with instances vetted by Meta). It is entirely possible that they use ActivityPub only to federate their own instances and ignore anyone else.

If Threads decides to be open for federation with non-Meta instances (which is a huge if, although everybody seems to assume it), maybe this decision might lead to European “normies” joining Mastodon instances just to interact with Threads users.

I moved my little guy to the f5 square to attack the king, and then white's little guy appeared in f6 and my little guy disappeared. What is going on? Is chess.com rigging the puzzles so that we can't solve them???

Looking for moderators for c/chess
Sorry for the non-anarchic post. Since this is currently the largest chess (?) community in the Fediverse, I guess I could give it a try. [c/chess](https://lemmy.ml/c/chess) doesn't have any active moderators. The creator of the community, [@ajz](https://lemmy.ml/u/ajz), removed their account in March 2022. At the moment, the community is still small and doesn't need much (or any) moderation, but this could change if the Fediverse becomes popular. I would be willing to help with moderation for some time, but I'm not really the mod type, and don't have too much free time either. So if anyone is interested, comment here or send me a DM. tl;dr: Holy hell, new call for mods just droped
