About all this is doing is making me update my lists in UBO more often.

Pixel Buds are the same way. IIRC from a teardown vid, those earbuds (and I’m guessing most of their competitors’ too) are designed to be quasi-disposable in this way. They’re glued together, the only way to open them up destroys them, warranty support consists of replacing defective earbuds.

This business model does create an e-waste issue… More lithium ion batteries ending up in landfills, more gold extracted from components by kids in developing nations burning them and breathing the carcinogens…

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a truck full of flash drives. The latency’s most annoying though.

Think of this as an IQ test. Those that pass come here, those that fail get Zuck’d, Musk’d & Spez’d.

That’s what happens when you hang out at a Nazi bar…

Sartre said it…

Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

The stoners on Reddit got screwed - many of the weed subs got the banhammer, and the rest got NSFW’d because spez wants Reddit as G-rated as Disney for the IPO.

Now if only we can induce some celebrities to make appearances on Mastodon or Lemmy…

Maybe what we need is mirroring instances, which simply duplicate other instances, so users can read the content without having their devices talk to the original servers directly and give away information about your reading habits.

Say you want to see what’s up in Meta, but don’t want to get tracked. Federate with a mirroring instance - all it does is relay posts from Meta-land to Fediverse-land, and all Meta gets in terms of info is a zillion queries from the mirror instance, with zero info about end-users.

Another brainfart: It would be good practice for every celebrity and influencer using Threads to have their own instance, and same thing for every business that wants a presence on Threads - they should be operating their own instance, on a system they own, instead of running an account on Threads. That way, they can control their server, have discussions or groups structured the way they want, have their own TOS instead of having to deal with Meta’s attempts to censor them or splatter them with enshittification…

…AND if we can get enough businesses, celebrities & in-demand personalities to do this when Threads opens up to the Fediverse, that will take power away from Meta. If every celebrity & influencer is on their own instance, Meta can’t just wall up the garden without creating a huge shitstorm…

Spez could have even required 3pas to carry Reddit ads - a lot of us would have grumbled, but stayed.

But Spez didn’t want that, did he? If I had to guess, I’d say Reddit’s official app is even more rigged with tracking than Tik Tok. That’s why it lags - it phones home every time you pause in your doom-scrolling, to log what stories you’re interested in.

With so many of the power-users and mods abandoning ship, we’d better start a death pool for old.reddit.com, since it’s mostly power-users that stay with old Reddit. How long until it gets Spez’d so desktop users have to suffer enshittification with the mobile app users?
