Because the tech behind it isn’t cheap and money does not fall from trees.

You’re painting him like he’s a super villain, that’s pure hate for him. Why?

Honestly my wild guess is that he’s trying to make Twitter profitable from subscription based services and not so much from ad revenue.

Can’t really have free speech if platform depends on advertisers and investors.

Tesla has been breaking records on vehicle sales and the Model Y is top selling in various markets.

Tell me, how is he broke?

What does he has to gain in lying anyway? It’s not like he cares about what investors think since Twitter is now a private company owned by him.

Musk wasted a shitload of money to make it private. Twitter is wasn’t even close to being a net neutral business, was downright a hole of money the investors kept feeding because well, it’s Twitter.

Musk bought the brand, he was well aware that this was going to happen.

That’s just numbers they throw out to please investors. These companies live from that, most likely a huge chunk of those were bots and forced sign ups from Instagram.

You’re now his pet though

Expected it. It’s a cheap Twitter clone with the downsides of using Meta social networks. When was new, people wanted to try it, specially since there’s a lot of hate towards Twitter lately.

Makes me wonder if they’re not using Instagram user base to inflate the numbers to make the social network look more enticing to new users as well with a success for investors.

They’re pretty much using Instagram user base to push their own Twitter replacement.

Zuckerberg is a cancer in big tech, he doesn’t create anything, he only destroys and steal your data.

I’m astonished to see people publishing about it on Twitter and even here.

The entire point of the remaining social networks is that they don’t belong to Meta, that’s it.

I’ll keep using Twitter and Lemmy and when I feel able to, delete all my Meta related accounts.

Some years ago most people would say this is positive. Mostly due to the fact that now someone trying to check what you’ve been saying on Twitter will have a harder time doing that. (Will need to search you actually on Twitter instead of just going to Google).

Also, the Twitter view limits it’s just to prevent scraping by third parties. Saves money to Twitter but also ultimately makes life harder on companies who are trying to feed information from Twitter to their AIs. The Twitter Blue subscription it’s a good source of revenue for Twitter as well helps them filter out the bad users. Some years ago some people would also find that a good idea. Who remembers the phrase “If it’s free YOU’RE THE PRODUCT”, well now it isn’t completely free right?

One point everyone forgets about is that, Musk bought Twitter as is. He made the company private and suddenly the company started losing money like hell? No. Company before he buying it wasn’t sustainable at all hence he needed to fire most of its workforce for it to actually start being sustainable. Twitter as a company was employing a lot of useless people and was burning investor money every month. When investor money stopped going in (Twitter going private) suddenly a liquidity problem appears.

Also don’t even get me started on the fact that when Musk took over suddenly many of the issues plaguing Twitter were fixed. For example, Twitter had a bot problem, every post about crypto was plagued with bots trying to get you to invest in their crap. Musk fixed that only in a few weeks and removed most bots from the social network. Why? Well, he doesn’t need the user base to look bigger to investors.
