TBF these days ALAC is not that much different from FLAC and equally lossless and open source/royalty free. It’s just that ALAC as used prioritizes file size over decode speed.

Lossless (ALAC up to 24-bit/48 kHz)
Hi-Res (ALAC up to 24-bit/192 kHz)
