Good God why do people think this is ever a good idea? I’ll keep my paper passport thank you

I get more benefit from a good IDE that helps me track libraries, cars, functions, grammar checks my code, offers a pop-up with params and options…

I don’t needcode I would grade as a D- from an AI. Most of what I write comes from my code closet anyway. I have skeleton code for so much, and I trust my old code more than AIs new code

I would love to have a VR headset that didn’t require a damn account with a 3rd party just to use it. I don’t need an account for my monitor or my mouse. Plus when I bought the thing, it was just Oculus, then meta bought it and promised nothing would change, before requiring a meta account to use the fucking thing.

It’s great. We already set it up and worked without issues

We get those huge bags of beans, not canned. Huge bags of rice. Staples that’ll feed ya. May not be pizza rolls or frozen lasagna, but it fills ya up

They are just delaying the vote for another time… Hoping that next time it will fly under the radar and there won’t be a huge backlash of discontent.

If the vote fail, they just wait a year, rename it, and try again.

Same thing happens in the US. Law proposed that people hate, people organize, start a campaign that fights for news airtime, bringing awareness of the dickery about to happen, and then succeed after a hard battle and many many volunteer hours spent.

In 6 months Congress just renames it the “I love kittens” act and sticks it on a must pass bill.

Fighting bullshit laws is exhausting…

I tried running a forum… With 24 hours I had 10k posts for Russian porn… And I followed best practices to set it up.

I’ve been to Disney in Orlando dozens of times growing up. Haven’t been there for 10 years or so…so took a few days and went to the park.

Wow, sooooo many people, like sooooo many people you can’t walk down the paths without doing the New York shoulder to get through. I didn’t know about the phone thing… It’s a new smartphone system where you reserve spots in rides at certain times, but all reservations are gone 5 min after opening time for the app. The entire park was filled with people staring at their phones trying to get in on a canceled reservation. Well I didn’t know about this…so I was in the stand by lines. 1 to 2 hours per ride and a non stop stream of fast pass people kept walking right in. The New Tron ride was fast pass only.

All day there and I think we got on 4 rides. Peter Pan standby was 3 hours long.

For all the money paid to get in, the crowds, the stupid new smartphone thing… I will never go back to Disney. Let the stupid international tourists have it.

Cape Canaveral visitor center was sooo much better.

Why do companies hype redesigns so much … I know it’s for stupid people to be impressed with. But ultimately it just created a new learning curve for long time users of the application.

I’m convinced VMware started downhill when they dropped the hard windows client for the web based admin panel.

They claimed it was for multi os compatibility… But they wrote the thing using ActiveX. For the youngsters, ActiveX shit was Internet Explorer and M.S. only. So the idiots wrote a UI that still only worked in Windows, and was now 5 times slower than the thick client.

BTW, I run proxmox clusters in my garage. Its awesome

To execute this you need a DHCP server on the network… But any admin worth his salt has a config on the switch to limit DHCP traffic to a designated server.

Seems extremely difficult to pull off in any corporate environment

I played chess in HS and sat table 1. One tournament an argument broke out about en passant… The other team player used it and our guy thought it was illegal. I took him aside and politely told him to stop, it’s legal. He looked at me as if I was on the take from the opponents

Does Lemmy have a “baby elephant gifs” section ? If not, we need that in our lives

All this complexity and expensive tech just to avoid paying a couple of cashier’s and bagboys. It amazes me

Because the gov gets it’s cut. That’s why. It’s easier to keep 1 big corp happy so long as they shuffle over that 15% or less.

Plus, no one in gov wants to be the one that forced a large corp to shutdown costing a bunch of normal people jobs.

Why do you think military contractors setup factories in all 50 states to make 1 type of aircraft… Senators that don’t want more fighter jets? Well the factory that employs 2000 of it’s citizens might just have to close down then … Oh I see you changes your mind …here’s a campaign contribution instead

Ublock Origin, privacy badger, pihole for home DNS… Can’t live without them

Cut the power to the OnStar module and cut the wire to the cell antenna. Cars do not need to connect to the Internet… Ever
