Again, even if a vegan is spamming the word “vegan” in public spaces (which they almost never do like people joke about), it’s leagues better than racist slurs which society has just like, tolerated? In public spaces as being inevitable for several years, notably online and in games

You know, vegans get a lot of hate for telling everyone they are vegan, yet I’ve never heard a vegan doing this and yelling about veganism. It’s almost like racists are so much more violent and outspoken about it, including in kid’s game lobbies and now with fucking vacuums. I have never seen vegans yell “VEGAN!” online repeatedly… and even if they did, that’s substantially less harm anyway than racist bullshit. I never want to hear people complain about vegans talking about veganism ever again when this shit is part of everyday society and not surprising at all.

And ps I am not vegan.

I’m a sex worker so I get a LOT of requests to use Telegram. Human trafficking is something I am directly exposed to and I am in danger of. The men who request to use Telegram make me feel in danger. So it doesn’t surprise me the owner of that app was arrested. My assumption comes from my experience.

This sub isn’t a telegram sub, it’s a technology one. I use technology.

Telegram has always had the sketchiest people on it. I refuse to use it because it feels like I’m talking with human traffickers. Doesn’t surprise me he was arrested.

Sure, but you’ll notice that’s something you have to work hard to bypass capitalism to do. It’s not something capitalists are actually offering or would program into their algorithms, because it’s directly against anything capitalism values or rewards. They are not here to provide a service. They are here to take money, to make capital. Which is often why they make the system less efficient, eg Turbo Tax. Giving a discount eats into their profit margins, so they’d rather lose the customer than lose the profit margin, because their resources are all finite. Yes there may be a discount in some countries, but within the same store it is very unlikely they will reward poverty by giving it a discount and eating into their profit margins. It just doesn’t make sense. This meme is propaganda to upset the middle class towards the poor.

And yes I’d take ANYTHING approaching the limit of worker owned companies. Also if every election could be approval based voting or ranked choice.

I mean I don’t think this is fair, but I also don’t think this will ever happen in this way. If something like this happened, it would be to increase the price for poorer people to drive them away, because poorer people tend to use more resources and drive away rich people.

Part of the issue with real goods pricing, especially food, is that it directly reflects the stock market. The word “stock” itself comes from “livestock.” A farmer in the 1800s predicted many peaks/troughs of the stock market based on solar cycles - the Benner cycle. https://www.therationalinvestor.com/blog/how-the-benner-cycle-predicts-100-years-of-market-movement

Owning physical stock is what the stock market is kinda based on, plus a weird family feud popularity contest and insider trading.

So to regulate the price of goods, we will.have ti regulate the stock market. To regulate the stock market, we will have to regulate the ownership of companies, because that’s what the stock market also is - ownership in a company. I’m all for mandating every company be a cooperatively owned, worker owned company. I’d vote for that TODAY.

I didn’t say to make it illegal. I didn’t say it was illegal. I said to “normalize” (a social more) not doing so especially when the person has no choice except to live in the public. Especially when they

  1. wouldn’t appreciate it being taken or consent to it,
  2. it’s not particularly newsworthy,
  3. it’s a low moment in their lives, and
  4. it won’t benefit them and will benefit the picture taker/poster financially or otherwise

Like we don’t make picking your nose in public illegal, there’s just a social more that that’s gross behavior. That’s what I’m asking for - that mistreatment of people be seen as gross.

Hey normalize not posting pictures of people taken in public against their consent at their lowest moments. Like wtf, what if that was you?

It says a lot when your respect and compassion for another person turns off just because they are homeless or poor.

Ya’ll, this already happens - wholesale and retail pricing vs consumer pricing. This exact principle is why many states refuse sales tax - those disproportionately affect poorer people because a lot of rich people can buy items through their LLCs and get bulk or retailer pricing.

Costco has memberships based on this - there’s the regular and then the executive memberships. You spend more on the higher level memberships (essentially an income check) and also get more money back later. Credit card promos function like this. Credit scores and loans function like this.

Grocery stores (capital) will never give us a break on food (money). They will always try to find a way to make the poor pay even more. That’s why it’s called capitalism - all that is valued is capital and capital accrues more capital. That’s the game.

Children are legally basically slaves in the US (of their parents, or if they get married, of their spouse). They are almost never granted more power for themselves or more freedoms. Most “for the children” rhetoric tends to advocate for removing even more of their freedoms and power. It’s really really sad.

Giving kids the right to vote would be a start in the right direction. No taxation without representation, and we have child actors and performers paying millions in taxes. They deserve representation. Maybe they’d change the laws so their parents (owners) weren’t legally entitled to their money.

Are we all pretending that the investment in Tesla was organic and for the company?

You guys have seen the man with creepy world leaders. Multiple countries investing in and pumping Tesla stock to get favors from Elon is PRETTY BLATANTLY what’s going on.

If the commute was included in workplace deaths and injuries, I wonder where it would rank with OSHA’s statistics

If this country cared about the environment or workers’ safety, they’d fine companies who make employees work in the office/on site when they could work from home instead.

I’m not trying to infer, I’m asking you questions to further understand your position here. What’s your issue with porn specifically? Why is porn bad for people? You’re the one asserting this (“porn is as much a problem” implies it’s still a problem at some level) on an open forum, please explain. What’s so bad about being naked in a movie or picture and someone else watching that? We have bodies. We are adults. So what?

We’ve had infinite porn scrolling for a while now with image searches. The issue with addiction and scrolling is usually related to predatory algorithms (which op doesn’t appear to have used) and also neurochemical differences in individuals. However, addiction in terms of neurochemical balances is a highly controversial topic and in general, I side with the idea that each person should own their own body and be able to do what they like as long as it doesn’t harm others. So if someone is comfortable with watching porn all day every day and that feels fine for them, then I think that is fine as well.

There’s no need to monitor another person’s addiction and the only reason you’d want to, is if you were codependent or parentified as a child (codependency is an addiction too). I get providing your opinion and sources, but you have yet to provide a single source or even specifically say what the issue is, besides some vague concern over infinite scrolling in general. You come across as being reactive and not actually founded in any kind of moral or scientific consistency. That’s fine if that’s the case, but then maybe you should acknowledge that you could be wrong here unless you’re backing it up with sources and sound reasoning.

I think there’s something to be said for coercive and manipulative algorithms, definitely. I don’t know that simply efficiently looking at the porn you want to look at until you’re done edging or you cum or whatever is bad. The less ads, the better as well, because ads are very manipulative and coercive and the point is to reduce that. Having an orgasm is a normal human experience, as is sexual exploration in general. Idk that all porn is perfect or anything, but I do think the antiporn stuff is weirdly sex phobic for no reason.

What element of porn in general do you find offensive or problematic, if not the sexual one?

You realize you can just look at… not porn? Other stuff? Read a book?
