My absolute favorite is when I asked copilot to code a UI button and it just pasted “// the UI element should do (…) but instead it is doing (…)” a dozen times.

Like, clearly someone on stackoverflow asked for help, got used for training data, and confused copilot

No? You don’t think the courts would approve of a fishing expedition for forth amendment violation access to your computer?

Nighthawkinlight just released a video on a material that accomplishes this that you could make at home.

If inflation isn’t based on most prices increasing… What is it based on?

My favorite is when I ask for something and it gets stuck in a loop, pasting the same comment over and over

Another relatively innocent reason for the supposed high volume of uploads could be an error in the Asus router firmware.

Note the language could be.

Who’s to say it isn’t acting as a gateway for other smart devices that aren’t connected to the Internet? Or part of a bot net?

Difference is most companies just want to hold onto the patent to prevent competition

At some point there will be more satellites than is feasible to manage.

If they aren’t already, will we start treating them like telephone poles or cell towers?

Yeah, there is. But that requires thinking that isn’t emulated well by LLMs.

LLMs don’t really do any thinking.

Edit: what we’re seeing as AI is really just the next generation of ML (machine learning).

There’s no intelligence to it.

I recall in AP language and composition, the strategy our teacher told us, was that you could make up fake facts. All that mattered is that you demonstrated the rhetorical devices and proper grammar.

LLMs are basically like a student taking that test. The facts aren’t relevant, all that matters is the grammar and how it sounds. Maybe the facts are real, or not.

Depends, depends. In your case it’s probably about cookies, or IP. Maybe it’s inferred identity, hence why it takes a few days.

Are cookies or IP enough for 90% of people? Yeah. But I’m sure that data is worth less, because they already have tons of data on those folks.

What about the 10% that might be using a VPN? The <1% using tor?

That data could be more valuable because it’s harder to get.

I bet, if they haven’t already, some of the info stored by sites is how we interact with it. And I bet with AI you can pretty much fingerprint someone based on habits.

So even your alt accounts will know it’s you.

Edit: why do you think Reddit made the big push for their own app? Engagement, time spent looking at a post, how fast you scroll past something, all useful metrics for ad revenue. And we know that ad companies like tracking us.

Any spooky shit comes after the systems are developed for ads.

Sounds dangerous

I have lights go out on me all the time at the office, just sitting mildly still. What happens if someone falls asleep in the room? Or worse a kid? Severe sunburn and possible blindness

Again, the expectation in public is that you don’t have privacy.

The expectation I would have is that your own car isn’t going to collect evidence that could be used against you. And that it won’t collect data in your own garage or on your property.

Nope, I do not consider an unrecognized sample as copyright infringement. Or, I don’t believe it should be ruled as such by the courts.

If you can’t reasonably recognize the source material, and it’s so different that only AI looking at bits could identify similarities, that doesn’t cross the threshold in my opinion.

I actually don’t think most sampling should be considered infringement, assuming the new song is actually a new work.

It’s all about how transformative the work is.

Uhhhh the chemical brothers are alive. And I can’t find anything about this online.

Listen at 2:00, https://youtu.be/q0AcZkR_LUs?si=L-dbJasU5YRseIvD

I wouldn’t call that “unrecognizable”, it’s pretty obvious what was sampled.

AI should be no different

I agree

The chemical brothers were sued for this one song that had recognizable infringement. And despite that instance of copying/sampling, and presumably listening to many many copyrighted works in their lifetime, that doesn’t invalidate any of their other works.

Artists/musicians can also “accidentally” plagiarize, meaning they “came up with” a beat or lick, not recognizing that it is from something they’ve heard previously until someone says “hey isn’t that xyz”.

Either an output is or isn’t infringing.

It doesn’t “contain the original work” in the way it sounds. That sounds like there’s literally a stolen picture, sitting in the network, ready to be copy/pasted into the derivative work.

If you examined the network, you won’t see anything like the “stolen image”. It’s an entire latent space of many dimensions, where a point in the space is a concept.

A good metaphor might be a recipe for bread, or worded instructions on how to draw Mickey mouse.

It’s just that a computer is so good at following those instructions verbatim, it can draw Mickey mouse with uncanny ability.

Is “draw a circle at 100,200 of diameter ∅40 color hex 0xBEEFE5, draw a line from…” the same as Mickey Mouse? If I got the detail 100% and following those instructions gives Mickey mouse, am I distributing copyrighted work ?

Semantics. Regenerative braking adds miles of range compared to those without.

That’s good to know! Glad to hear it’s working for you

What’s holding me back is that I’m worried the fold line would be too distracting, or would get worse over time.

I also love my s23 pen

Wow you’re exactly right. Why don’t they just take what’s broken and fix it

It would be a really cool truck, and I think the looks wouldn’t be so bad, if it actually lived up to the promises.

Can’t look like trash, especially ironically, unless everything else is 200%. Same reason fashion models can dress up in trash but regular people can’t.

The business will gladly sell to the alphabet boys. And hackers will definitely get the data from poor security.

That’s probably the best case scenario honestly. They use our saliva and cure cancer. That’s a great thing for humanity.

The other applications range from questionable to dystopian… Making a database of everyone’s DNA for law enforcement, data leaks and dark-web selling your DNA sequences, insurance buying the data to limit coverage after a claim, forensic genealogy as a way to catch criminals, using forensic genealogy to predict future offenders, targeted bio weapons, future tech like making clones of people, manufacturing fake evidence to plant, using genetic info to target certain types of people (race, gender, what if sexuality is genetic)

Sandbox the ads. Trick them into thinking the playback is finished. If there is a timer that prevents skipping, modify timing calls to shorten the duration. Or execute faster than real-time.

If there is some kind of timer callback to server, it would even be preferable to have ad “running” invisibly with a progress bar and no ad.

Back in the day a lot of us didn’t have smart phones or computers. But we did have consoles with Internet.

Nintendo Wii had a browser too. Tits in their 480p glory.

With housing the way it is, and AI driving being a possibility, we’re going to see a huge influx of people truly living in their cars. Add remote work into the mix?

Plenty of smaller ISPs are WISPs, wireless ISPs. Great for rural too, you just need line-of-sight. Look up if any serve your area

That’s a silly take.

The hardware offerings outside of Apple are just more diverse. You could buy a $40 Motorola or LG and get exactly what you’d expect. Or you could get the flagship Samsung or Google and blow the iPhone out of the water.
