I can see the headlines now. “GOP passes bill banning civilian ownership of anything faster than a Pentium III.”

Definitely not the IT people keeping their ai servers running, that’s for sure.

Security camera stuff is really lacking. The only good one is zoneminder. It mostly works but it breaks a lot.

The tech world is going downhill fast. Anything that isn’t currently obtainable through only foss means isn’t going to be attainable by the average person for much longer.

The tech things most people currently enjoy will soon become entirely unaffordable to anyone not made of money. Anything that you aren’t willing to switch to an open source alternative for, prepare to learn to live without it.

I even self host my own music streaming. I never had a streaming service, not even in 2012 when Netflix was all the rage. I don’t even own a windows compatible pc. I don’t even know what modern ms office looks like. I use my home network more than I use the actual internet just about.

Damn maybe that one crackhead that kidnapped a scientist to make a dog live forever was onto something.

Modern day is the worst time to be a hardcore gamer, I swear to fuck. As always, I protest by refusing to have any non-Linux os on my pc and only buying games that run on my pc. Indie games are always better anyway.

I made my graphics card watercooled because I couldn’t fit it in my case with the bigass extra long heatsink. It’s complicated. I used a universal gpu water block, some small heatsinks for the mosfets and vram and thermal glue to hold the heatsinks on but I fucked up because that fucking glue is like 75% as strong as epoxy. Now that I have an actual proper gpu waterblock, I can’t install it because of this shit. I guess the takeaway from this is to not do dumb stuff like I did, so at least you didn’t do that.

My hot take is that it’s not like most of those independent artists are getting compensated fairly by the companies that own them anyway if at all. Stealing ai training content is just stealing from corporations. Corporations who are probably politically fighting to keep things worse for the average person in your country.

Theft is “a crime” but I never saw anyone complaining about how unfair it was all those times I myself got fucked over by google bullshitting their way out of giving me my ad revenue. If normal people can’t profit from stuff like this, we shouldn’t be doing anything to protect the profits of evil corporations.

I like elite dangerous but I don’t like that you have to spend hundreds of hours grinding just to accomplish even the most minor gameplay advancement. No Man’s Sky and Starfield are more playable space games that that grindfest. I wish someone would just remake elite dangerous for normal people.

Is it possible to self host an ai image generator the same way you can self host text generating ai models and do it in a way that doesn’t require a $10k+ pc?

Damn what are cops going to do, confiscate my buckets? Did you know it’s possible to make a diy bucket by melting down ar-15s? You can buy people and harvested organs from the dark web so chances are you can get buckets on there too. Become ungovernable.

FreeCAD definitely does look like a good option. I followed a tutorial the other day and was able to do some cool stuff with it. Autodesk can definitely go to hell but if I find FreeCAD is suitable for the hobby stuff I do, then I’m using it.

I’m never getting one. If it ever gets to the point where I have to get a brain implant as a condition for a employment, and all the jobs are like that then I guess I’ll just be homeless.

North Korea barely even has electricity. Or food. 4G or 3G probably doesn’t even matter to most people living there.

They’re why they’re only paying “millions”. To big pharma, $20m is just pocket change. Now no one will accuse them of downloading it off the dark net.

Smartphone software most software these days only attempts to prevent unauthorized access to your information. It’s up to the manufacturer to determine who is and isn’t authorized. Calling that behavior malicious or not is moot point because they all do it.

Use llama cpp. It uses cpu so you don’t have to spend $10k just to get a graphics card that meets the minimum requirements. I run it on a shitty 3.0ghz Amd 8300 FX and it runs ok. Most people probably have better computers than that.

Note that gpt4all runs on top of llama cpp and despite gpt4all having a gui, it isn’t any easier to use than llamacpp so you might as well use the one with less bloat. Just remember if something isn’t working on llamacpp, it’s also going to not work in exactly the same way on gpt4all.

What’s an uncensored ai model thats better at sex talk than Wizard uncensored? Asking for a friend.

“It’s just the price of your daily coffee”

I self brew my own value pack coffee because I’m poor. I even have a reusable metal mesh coffee filter insert so I don’t have to buy coffee filters, that’s how cheap I am.

Like a year or two from now, probably any AI stuff that isn’t self hosted is going to be 100% inaccessible to normal people due to cost. It’s just a question of how hard they’re going to fight to keep current free to download LLM models off the internet once this happens.

Nintendo is such an unethical company that this would probably be an overall improvement for Nintendo fans. No more getting sued, copyright strikes and cease and desists just for being a fan of Nintendo games. Hell, they might even have mod support when they re-release stuff on pc. What a world that would be to live in. Do I think Microsoft is a good company? Fuck no. They’re still the lesser of the two evils though, fuck Nintendo.

Before you know it, it will be almost impossible to browse the internet normally without getting a visit from the feds for some bs reason. Guess we’ll all be using the dark net for everything.

Idk, an ai delivering low quality results for free is a lot more cash money than paying someone an almost living wage to perform a job with better results. I think corporations won’t care and the only barrier will be whether or not the job in question involves enough physical labor to be performed by an ai or not.

If you have 100mbps of non bandwidth capped internet in America, you’re doing damn good for yourself.

Stop buying games that need 220gb of drive space, an Nvidia gtx 690000 and a 7263641677 core processor then. More than a 60gb download size means I pirate it unless it’s a really really damn good game. Games with no drm that can be run without a $20k computer, I buy.
