Got a 3070 off ebay. It runs really hot touching 102 at times for hotspot. I took it out to realize there there is a slight warp to the pcb which is enough to lift the cooler off the die. Any suggestions to remount this flat? I repasted and found the temps still bad. Also really? No metal shim around the die to help. ): MSI ventus x2 3070 (Uhhh Liftoff isnt letting me past the image crop lol. Ill come back and add photos when i get to my main pc)  

I have a 250 GB M.2 SSD in which Windows is installed and a 1 TB M.2 to store my games and stuff. Now the 1 TB is out of space and I'm buying another 2 TB drive, but I don't know if I should clone the 250 GB to the 1 TB and move the contents in the 1 TB to the new 2 TB stick, or just buy a SATA SDD for the same price. I can have faster write/read speed with the 1st option but with I only get 1 more TB of storage, while the second option gives 2 TB at the cost of speed. Which way should I go? Both the M.2 and SATA I'm planning on buying have the same price and I mainly use the PC to play games. I play FO4 and I have a lot of mods installed (like over 500) so I need space but I don't know if the speed trade-off is worth it. Edit: I forgot to mention, the 250GB has the fastest write/read speed.

Last week I applied liquid metal for the first time ever and it’s been running great! The GPU runs a lot quieter now and cooler! Honestly, I don’t know why I did it. Could’ve very easily lost a grand.

It's really starting to get sluggish/finicky. For games the most taxing is something like BG3, but I can't think of anything else in terms of taxing programmes. I don't think I'd have a use for it if I kept it. Even if I kept the hard drive I'd have to research How and What To Save To Which Drive On Your PC, but if that's what y'all recommend then I can. I'm not against investing a few grand if it's the right money spent at the right time, if that makes sense? My worry about changing individual parts is the standard worries about installation and compatibility, but if it's too soon to be changing the whole rig then I can get over that

Hello fellow lemmings! I am in need of some advice on how to expand/coordinate my workstation. I currently have 2 monitors and 2 laptops with 1 docking station that I switch back and forth between (I do have a second Bluetooth mouse that I connect to the laptop that is not currently connected to the docking station, if I need to). I would like to have 4 monitors by the upcoming tax season. Also, I would like the option to expand to a total of 3 laptops within a couple years. I have looked into KVM switches and the only one that I can find for 4 monitors and 2 computers is upwards of $800. Is there a KVM switch out there for 4 monitors and 3 computers, or is this just a pipedream? What other solutions should I consider? When I expand to 3 computers in the upcoming years, would having 2 workstations be cheaper/more efficient?

Anyone got any idea how performance is compared to 313? I updated via the myAsus app, but it seems that asus removed the update from the servers. Does anyone know why? i've noticed the CPU is getting a bit hot (everything is clean and repasted with mastergel maker) and i honestly don't trust asus especially on bios related things. Let me know if i should roll back the BIOS to 313. I'd like to add to anyone who has bought this laptop, the asus wifi drivers (MT7921) suck, they just suck and asus knows about it. Download the drivers from lenovo and you wont experience all the wifi problems (thanks again asus).

Hi, with the upcoming CP2077 DLC increasing the system requirements I'm thinking of upgrading my system. I was hoping you guys could give me some feedback on my plan, since my experience with building PCs is fairly limited. My current setup: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (12) @ 3.967GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB RAM: 16GB OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS (Kernel 6.2) From what I've been seeing when monitoring load levels my biggest bottleneck right now is the GPU. I'm not too sure about the CPU either, but it seemed fine for now. My plan is to buy an Intel ARC GPU. I'm thinking of getting a 770 (8GB) since those are around 280€. I was planning on waiting for the second generation Arc cards but those are still a year away. The 16GB version of the 770 is around 100€ more and I couldn't find a reputable vendor (if anyone knows a good german vendor that carries it let me know) so I'll probably not get that one. I also checked and the Ryzen 5 3600 should have support for resizable BAR, which is required for good performance with Arc cards. Do you guys think this is a reasonable upgrade or will my CPU just create a huge bottleneck?

One quirky detail of my build: it has a tiered storage system through FuzeDrive. What that means is I have an 8 TB shucked hard drive and a 128 GB SSD "fuzed" together through some old software by Enmotus that is no longer available for purchase iirc. This means the SSD acts as a cache for my huge 8 TB drive. As a result, I can just install basically any game I want to my massive 8 TB drive without worrying about space, and if I play that game more than once or twice, it'll automatically move to the SSD portion for faster access. Some ideas: - Is this using used hardware that has a story? - Got an unusual configuration that isn't normally seen (Dual RTX 3070 for example) - Did you paint it or add special lighting?

I've always found the ["master race"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_race) moniker on Reddit subs really offputting/distrubing. Why repeat that here? It could just as easily be called "PC Enthusiast" or something totally normal.

I've had a Sound Blaster AE-5 Plus for about nine months. During that time, I've been experiencing a persistent crackling issue. I finally did some research, found some different solutions which reportedly worked for folks, tried a few, and one finally worked for me! Apparently, a bunch of things can cause this crackling issue. In my case, it was the **equalizer**! I just had to disable that and **bam**! Problem solved! *If only Creative had just left that feature disabled by default.* Or in my case, the developer of the open-source drive, since I'm on Linux. The funny thing about it is that, depending on the cause, this crackling issue isn't limited to a single operating system or a single driver; Windows and Linux users alike are experiencing this problem - and Linux users like myself have to use an open-source driver (*not that we mind*) because Creative isn't interested in supporting Linux. Creative would do themselves a *big favor* if they just had the equalizer *disabled by default*. Then people could notice the crackling only after enabling the equalizer and realizing right away that the equalizer was the cause of the crackling. Creative could probably improve sales and prevent returns. If you're experiencing this issue and disabling the equalizer doesn't solve the problem, some other solutions I found from my research are *disabling G-Sync*, switching to a different version of the *Nvidia driver*, and switching the sound filter to *fast roll-off*.

Hello PCMR, I'm currently dabbling in a side project and want to be as economical as possible, both in money and space, on getting an NVidia setup. My use cases, sorted in order of importance: 1. AI side project dabbling (yes, Transformers, but also some old school stuff like ConvNets, GANs, basically to catch up on some domain knowledge) 2. CUDA / C++ Torch dabbling: uncovering some lower layers below PyTorch 3. Distributed Systems learning: it would be nice to run a Kubernetes cluster without wiring physical Ethernet cables to a switch :') 4. General dev: Being able to run an emulator and 10 tabs would be nice 5. Gaming: nothing special, maybe Microsoft Flight Sim? I've been out of the PC game since the age of GTX 9xx, and no longer consider myself an informed shopper, would love to get some recommendations, and even some guidance via Socratic method so that I can be more clear about my actual requirements. I may have the opportunity to upgrade my home office from dual 42" 4K panels to a single 8K panel. Actually, the two 42" won’t fit as my new space is limited to a 72" maximum total width so it's drop to one monitor or go big. I’ll be moving my gaming rig into the office so gaming performance will matter but probably only a couple hours a week vs 50 hours of CAD and office apps. Although the easy answer is to grab the Samsung QN900C, it’s realistically more than I want to pay. I’m curious if anyone can say that there’s any day-to-day difference between the 900C flagship and either the 800C (or last year’s 800B) while I’m out looking for deals this week. I’m currently disregarding the 57" dual 4k gaming monitor due to the curve (it would obscure half my desk).

Hey guys, need some help finding a new laptop to replace my old 2018 Razer Blade 1070. Any suggestions?

I've got the Samsung Odyssey G65B 32". Upgraded from a 165Hz IPS AOC AG271QG. So far so good. It's definitely much faster response time and it's so smooth as long as I can maintain the FPS high. Though mainly the colors and contrast stand out the most. I was worried about QC issues but did not notice anything out of whack yet. The only annoying thing which I'll probably never use is the built in Tizen OS to make it work more like a TV. I think that's just unnecessary. I did not even bother to connect it to network. 

Hi! Building a gaming PC for a friend, looking to spend about 1300$ USD. Will need to include a monitor as well. He’s looking to play some AAA and some esports games, was trying to get a 1440 setup with ability to upgrade in the future. Would you make any changes to what I’ve put together? Long story short, coworker was talking about how he upgraded from a 3080 to a 4080 last week. He asked if I was interested in buying his old 3080 for 400 USD. I told him yes of course (my gaming pc still running a 970 and I’m getting back into PC gaming after a long break). Well today he comes in, says he was mistaken, it’s actually a 3060 and because of that he’s willing to sell it for 300 USD. I thanked him but after seeing new 3060s for sale on Amazon for the same price I’m thinking that I need to haggle or look for another card. Thoughts? TLDR: Used 3060 for 200-250 USD, new 3060 for 300 USD or another option preferably vram min 10gb. Very top end of my budget (stretching it) is $450-500. I want to game at 4k (I know “good luck” but I wouldn’t mind settling for 1440) and have a respectable bump up in graphics performance from the Xbox series X or else the purchase isn’t really worth it to me, as the Xbox is already doing 4k @120 hz on my TV. Yes I know the Xbox 4k is probably upscaled.

I need longer display cables for a better managed cable situation but I'm not entirely sure on what to buy. I have an 160htz 2k Ultrawide and another 2k Ultrawide stacked on top of that. Does length matter? I have a standing desk too I guess what Im wondering is, is there a recommended cable brand or just get whatever, and does length matter for performance? Appreciate any assistance

Im using an ASrock A520-HDV motherboard, and when i was rebooting my computer to boot it into windows (i have windows 10 and arch linux installed) it showed the grub menu for 1 second and then the screen went totally black, so i pushed the reset button of my case, but when i did that the computer didnt POST and it started to beep 3 consecutive times followed by 1 beep, then stopping and doing it all over again, i reseted the cmpuer with the power supply and it booted normally, but i want to know what those beeps mean, i also checked the motherboard's manual and it doesnt say anything

So I was changing the case fans, after I put everything back together, I forgot to plug in the power for the GPU. I turned the pc on and I saw the white LED on GPU power port lid up and heard the fan spins like crazy (I don't know if it was the CPU fan or the GPU fans), I panicked and immediately turned off the power supply. Everything happened in less than 2 seconds, I've run some stress tests and gamed for a few hours and nothing bad happened (yet?) so I assumed everything is still fine (for now?). What happens if I had left it on like that for longer? And why did the fan ram up like that?

There is a magnetic top vent filter that comes with the case but it covers the top rear exhaust fan so I don't really want to put it on. Yes, I know the pc is dirty, but I'm getting a new PSU after Christmas so I'll clean it then.

Title pretty much tells you all you need to know about my situation. In a turn of events tonight I've been gifted a used but working EVGA 3090 card to replace my seven year old 1070. My current system hardware specs are: >CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core (upgraded from Ryzen 5 last year) >GPU: MSI 1070 >MoBo: MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK >PSU - Corsair CX-550 550 Watt >x4 8GB Installed Memory I also have a 2tb SSD drive with my OS and games installed, and 4 8tb HDD for media. My main concern is with needing to replace my MoBo with a x3 PCi board and worries about my PSU not being powerful enough. I'm not particularly worried about my tower is a Phanteks Enthoo Pro PH-ES614PC_BK. Thanks in advance!
