shitty devs are enabled by shitty tools.

No, shitty devs are enabled by piss-poor hiring practices. I’m currently working with two devs that submit mind bogglingly bad PRs all of the time, and it’s 100% because we hired them in a hasty manner and overlooking issues they displayed during interviews.

Neither of these bad devs use AI to my knowledge. On the other hand I use copilot constantly and the only difference I see in my work is that it takes me less time to complete a given task. It shaves 1-2 minutes off of writing a block/function several times an hour, and that is a good thing.

Copilot produces useful and correct code for me 5 days a week. I’m sorry you don’t see the same benefits.

Okay, so if the tool seems counterproductive for you, it’s very assuming to generalize that and assume it’s the same for everyone else too. I definitely do not have that experience.

Using a tool to speed up your work is not lazy. Using a tool stupidly is stupid. Anyone who thinks these tools are meant to replace humans using logic is misunderstanding them entirely.

You remind me of some of my coworkers who would rather do the same mind numbing task for hours every day rather than write a script that handles it. I judge them for thinking working smarter is “lazy” and I think it’s a fair judgement. I see them as the lazy ones. They’d rather not think more deeply about the scripting aspect because it’s hard. They rather zone out and mindlessly click, copy/paste, etc. I’d rather analyze and break down the problem so I can solve it once and then move onto something more interesting to solve.

I would argue that it’s obvious if someone doesn’t know how to use a tool to do their job, they aren’t great at their job to begin with.

Your argument is to blame the tool and excuse the person who is awful with the tool.

Like I told another person ITT, hiring terrible devs isn’t something you can blame on software.

I truly don’t understand the tendency of people to hate these kinds of tools. Honestly seems like an ego thing to me.

Maybe but I’m guessing most cameras don’t have as high of a res of your pupil?

I am not in charge of posting every news article on the web, friend. I read this one, thought it was interesting, and I posted it. I’m just posting this article that’s already available on a much bigger platform than Lemmy—I didn’t write it, just sharing it for discussion.

I believe the content fits this community’s guidelines, and if you feel otherwise, the mods are available. Thank you!

I don’t believe most people repeat pretty much the exact phrasing over and over and then lead normal lives. A hundred times one can find versions of the above quotes by browsing your history. I won’t respond anymore since it’s obvious this is your MO.

Enjoy the attention others give you!

Yeah I read the thread and saw how you left out the context with the screenshots proving you got permabanned from an entire instance for being “toxic”. The fake sounding comments in your history don’t convince me that’s wrong either. No one repeats themselves so much or says thank you after every interaction… So yeah you’re obviously sus.

Why did you draw attention to all of this here? Did you want sympathy for getting permabanned from an entire instance? You can’t pretend the mod/admin didn’t write “toxic”, it’s right here in this thread too.

Yep, they clearly went back in time a month to do it too!

Yeah AI can be wonky, but what idiot would spend a shitload of money on a graphics card without even being willing to click an article and read a bit?

It’s on you if you do that. Even if the AI shit worked way better, why would you trust there aren’t shady things happening to influence the AI and have you spend more money.

“I agree [with the opposite of what you said]. Also, here, have an irrelevant anecdote that includes a funny misspelling and a supposed diss of FF from 1999”

Not necessarily. The problem is often that chrome JavaScript implementation can be ever so slightly different from FFs. Or just that the web devs wrote fragile code that is barely working on chrome and doesn’t work on other browsers, where they failed to test.

Does anyone “prefer” emulation?

edit: I should added the caveat “if it’s feasible” because yeah it often isn’t. We don’t all have a lot of space, time, and money to deal with multiple old systems.

edit2: okokok there are plenty of reasons to prefer emulation. I was just thinking of controller/feel of the games almost always was best on the original.

I don’t see any mention of any details about the study participants but I wouldn’t expect the general public to have this attitude.

I think this idea is even stupider than it seems, and that’s already pretty fucking bad. I don’t think this idiot understands that people who still buy mice are people who didn’t “upgrade” to iPads or just use their phone as their only computer. We are power users, and are more likely to smell the bullshit than anyone else.

Yeah, I bought two expensive Logitech mice and my impression was they got WAY too much cash from me for it. Their reaction? Nope not remotely enough. Need a guaranteed stream from all customers.

I think I’ve bought my last Logitech product. I also have one of their keyboards and one of their webcams. In all cases they are semi okay products and the only reason I bought them is how bad some the other options I found out there are. Not that I looked at their lines and said “oh these seem great.” They were always a last resort.

I have never heard of Codeium but it says it’s free, which may explain why it sucks. Copilot is excellent. Completely life changing, no. That’s not the goal. The goal is to reduce the manual writing of predictable and boring lines of code and it succeeds at that.

AI is stupidly used a lot but this seems odd. For me GitHub copilot has sped up writing code. Hard to say how much but it definitely saves me seconds several times per day. It certainly hasn’t made my workload more…

The data is very clear… Ads work. They absolutely shouldn’t almost ever, but they do. With the cornucopia of analytics available, companies have long been able to see if their ads work, and if they didn’t, they would’ve stopped long ago. Hell even before the Internet they had ways to prove ads work.

edit: gotta say it’s pretty sad that so many simpletons downvoted this. Ya know, ads working is something that I hate. I hate ads. I want them all to go away. I’m simply stating a well known fact: they absolutely work, even on people like you and I who do our best to block and ignore them.

You’re pretty fragile if that fact upsets you enough to shoot the messenger.

Seriously though – how the fuck did Apple get away with trying to be a monopoly 24/7 for 17 years? The iPhone launch and everything since could not have been clearer.

Yep that’s exactly why they had started the 2 then changed their mind lol. Alllll part of the plan

I find it funny how transparent everyone’s pro apple bias is in threads like this. I’m proud to say fuck apple every chance I get because they say fuck users every chance they get. And yes I know because I have them probably $8000 over the course of 10 years or so. I was all in until the iPhone came out and they returned to the “proprietary is the business model” Apple roots.

They don’t even try to embrace standards except in cases where it makes them money. Their entire mo is to erase the existence of standards if a buck can be made off of it. Apple being such anti consumer monopolistic pieces of shit being uncommonly recognized is pathetic and sad, and the perfect example of corporations being a negative influence on society.

There probably are people who died because they couldn’t charge their phone and couldn’t call an ambulance. And no I don’t care about Apple’s security theater or other talking points. All of it is bullshit

I don’t think anyone shares these opinions and yet this gets reposted, what, every day?
