How is that related to OpenAI’s app? It’s not an Apple product.

I can’t imagine wanting to play a mobile game on Steam Deck… but having access to other native apps sure sounds like a win. Didn’t consider that.

I blocked Reddit via PiHole and configured Kagi to never show me Reddit results. When I left that cesspit, I spent a week running scripts to ensure all of my nearly 20 years worth of content was overwritten. I’m here because Reddit can DIAF.

…for now.

  • See above convo about acquisition by Canva.

That explains the Pi 5 pricing. They started the enshittification early.

Let’s gooooo!!!

P.S. is PopOS! still the popular choice for desktop gaming? Looking for a more permanent alternative to Windows. I’m currently leaning toward openSUSE + Plasma 6, since I’ve fallen out of love with Ubuntu/Canonical pretty hard. I know Pop is Ubuntu-based, but… I’d rather not have to build up from something like Arch.

How about the whole “sure you already paid for a year of Prime Video, but now you need to pay us again or we’re going to ruin the thing you already paid for” situation?

No, but it’s the only one that big corporations know/care about… primarily because of MS’s aggressive “look, it’s basically free and TOTALLY the same thing, we promise” marketing strategy.

The customer is never just a customer… even if you are paying. You are always the product now. Always.

Well, that’s just great. Another reason for corporations to force everyone into the miserable, counterproductive dumpster fire that is MS Teams.

On the up-side, I can cancel subscriptions whenever I want and only subscribe to one or two at a time when they have something I want to watch. I could never do that with cable.

That said, pricing is getting way out of control. I will not tolerate ads and we’re getting to the point where purchasing content makes more financial sense than subscribing to things that load you up with caveats unless you pay premiums.

Holy cow, I tried to buy one of these. Glad I wasn’t able to. I thought “Yeah, why not lean into the cyberpunk dystopia look, right now?”

Little did I realize that it was a product of a literal cyberpunk dystopia. Corpos, man.

Debian + KDE Plasma is all you need. Saying goodbye to Microsoft and their predatory, horrible software is an absolute win.

They are - surprise, surprise - the only two Republicans…

  • Brendan Carr - 2017 Trump appointee
  • Nathan Simington - 2020 Trump appointee

So who are the two corrupt corporate dogs that voted against?

My basic web dev Docker suite uses about 13GB just on its own, which - assuming you were on 16GB (double Apple’s minimum) - wouldn’t leave much for things like browser tabs, which also eat memory for breakfast.

A fast swap is not an argument to short-change on RAM, especially since SSDs have a shorter lifespan than RAM modules. 16GB remains the absolute bare minimum for modern computing, and Apple is making weak, ridiculous excuses to pocket just a few extra bucks per MacBook.

Yep. Doesn’t matter how healthy or stable a company is… when infinite growth is no longer feasible, investors would rather pick the bones clean than let it be.

I think that conspiracy grew out of bugs in the mass-deletion tools. I found and reported a few on my way out. I wound up rewriting big chunks of an FOSS tool because Reddit was quietly throttling delete calls to the API. The requests would return 200 codes, but the payloads themselves would include ambiguous “error” text about the throttling behavior. So while the mass delete tool insisted that content had been deleted, large chunks had NOT.

Once I got the scripts running it took nearly a week for the scripts to fully delete and replace all my content.
