I am all for basic first aid to be part of school curriculum. CPR, AED, and Stop the Bleed.
There are so many reasons to have a stop the bleed kit and training that isn’t gun shot related. Industrial accidents, automobile accidents, and even accidents around the home like kitchen accidents could cause a serious bleed. It’s not a terrible thing to understand the basics of preventing someone from bleeding out.
A year and a half ago I was able to buy a home, I had been saving up for the down payment and finally was able to make it happen. I’ve been house poor since then. I can’t wait until I’m finally able to feel comfortable with my finances again. In the meantime, I’m getting very comfortable with eating a lot of rice.
Fortunately, the girlfriend and her daughter are moving in soon. So that’ll help a bit as she’ll be taking over some of the utilities. And the house has appreciated almost 15% in that time as well.
I’ve been able to put away some away for retirement too. If all goes well when that time finally comes, I’ll have the mortgage paid off and will be able to live with relatively low expenses. My current mortgages interest rate is 6.875%, which over 30 years has me paying pretty much as much in interest as the house. But if interest goes down I can refinance and each % point lower I can get is about $200 a month. I really, really hope that it ends up back at 3% again. Maybe then I’ll be able to put some in savings again.
I can visit actual full service restaurants and get a similar burger (with a bigger patty and better quality) for about $16 that comes with fries. A drink might be $2.
Because the US is stupid, I’ll have to tip. But that’s only like $3.
Overall, that’s only two bucks more after tipping.
Fast food is the same price, for worse food, and worse service. They’ve forgotten their place.
We also got screwed over on portions at all these fast food and restaurants. McDonald’s legit made their food so cheap that you would buy two cheeseburgers, and you might as well make it a meal with an oversized drink and oversized french fry. Then we all got used to more food, subtly convinced that was the norm. Hell, a large soda was cheaper than a bottle of water!
It’s not normal to have a 1500-2000 calorie meal like that.
Second, late take.
Why, ignoring the bullshit censoring, does it not just refuse to return results but feel it needs to lecture you on top of it?
It could have just returned anything near the results ignoring the word ‘girl’ but no, it has to tell you you are bad and why. Fucking judgemental piece of shit on top of bullshit censorship.
I don’t think it’s dead Internet theory. But this is more dystopian in that private corporations are censoring our speech and searching based on their own criteria.
I find csam repulsive, but having a corporation or ai restrict unrelated content because their system construes an innocent search as potential bad is almost worst.
And that doesn’t include the other monthly costs. Property tax is semiannual but if you have an escrow account it’s paid monthly. And property insurance is pricey. If you don’t put enough down, you’ll have mortgage insurance too. A $2100 mortgage is fine, but it’s more like $2800 when the other monthly costs are included
Kind of.
You don’t have yearly contracts and it’s a lot easier to start and stop a particular service at any time.
It’s weird to see this take when I remember streaming started out that this was what was heralded. You could pick and choose what streaming services you wanted and you could change them easily. You didn’t have to buy the sport package or pay the built in royalties of sports teams if you didn’t watch sports.
Even that’s rather iffy too. If it’s been made so long that a reasonable person cannot be expected to read or understand it, it likely won’t hold up.
Of the courts decide to say, fuck it then it won’t hold up.
If this goes to a class action suit, I expect the judge to not let this change of TOS affect who is covered under the class action suit.
This is just a way to make the customer THINK they can’t sue.
I almost like the idea of augmented reality with similar tech. I’d love it if I could look down the street and see historic photos of building overlaid perfectly.
The issue isn’t the technology, it’s the people who are supplying it and it’s connection to the Internet and sharing. I don’t trust Google and I don’t trust Meta.
The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
This is more based on authorization vs CC details. It’s much safer for a company than holding onto credit card numbers. Creating a subscriptions generates an authorization code which is good for the account, not just a specific card number. Revoking that authorization is a separate call to the bank rather than just having a credit card replaced.
Privacy is very important to a lot of people. It doesn’t seem like it is to you, but to some of us it really is a reason why a new car is simply unacceptable to us.
There is no reason they couldn’t make newer vehicles that are eco friendly without the data collection. Just because you are willing to trade your privacy for marginal emissions gains doesn’t mean everyone is.
And I say marginal, because many older vehicles could easily be maintained at a much lower cost than a new vehicle is. And an older vehicle, well maintained, can easily get very close or better than modern vehicles emissions, excluding EVs.
It isn’t the age of the car that’s the issue so much as maintenance and size. Sedans and coupes are far more ecological than trucks and SUVs.
Shapeways.com and printathing.com
Usually can upload a file and they will print and ship to you
A modified computer is already being checked for in CA emissions. No matter how good the car runs, if you have a non-approved or factory tune you can’t register the vehicle.
Homebrew isnt the issue, since it’s not like the stuff coming from Tesla or any actual car maker has to go through a third party approval process. They just throw software updates out to the wild. And while they may have some internal testing, there just isn’t the regulations to verify any of that.
I’ve found the whole concept of software assists in general to be the wild West in automotives.
The type c to c is becoming quite common and even better, it can charge much, much faster. If you have such an issue when traveling, I’d suggest getting a small USB c to USB a adaptor. They are about the size of a quarter.
USB A is, in the tech world, an outdated standard that is being replaced. I actively try to have any device I purchase now only use type C. If I never see another micro USB port on my life, it will be too soon. Even Apple has started to embrace type C for their devices and the EU is forcing them to use type C on iphones in Europe.
I’ve gotten happier the more cars that I rent that have wireless chargers built in somewhere. It’s especially nice not to have to worry about a cable at all anymore.
There was a period when cars were almost modular. Each component a discretely independent part. They might not have been exactly plug and play, but they were all super integrated with each other and every piece molded into the dash. If you wanted a stereo, it was single or double din.
Now if I want to replace something I either need to fab up or order some custom trim piece for everything. They’ve covered everything they could in plastic.
Hokay, so here’s the Bible… Chillin.
“Damn, that is a sweet Bible” you might say.
WRONG
Alright.
Ruling out the second coming,
Heaven becoming crashed into us,
Our savior leaving, and reality exploding,
we’re definitely going to burn in hell.
Hokay.
So, basically we’ve got
Adam, Eve, Abraham, Cain, Abel, Joseph, the Hittites, and us with sins.
We’ve got about 2600 more than anybody else…whatever.
Anyway,
one day God decides those Gomorrah sons of a bitches are going down.
So, he launch retribution at Gomorrah.
While it’s on it’s way, Gomorrah is like “SHIT! SHIT! Who the fuck is burning us!?”
“Oh well, rape the visitors!”
Then in Babel Gods like
“Shit guys, zey got ze tower, zey are communicating. Confuse their language!”
“But I am le tired!”
“Well, have a nap, THEN SCATTER THEM!”
Meanwhile, Hebrews are down there like
“WTF, mate?”
Noah, Shem, and God flood all the lands,
so, now we’ve got plagues flying everywhere, passing each other.
Egypt’s like
“AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH LOCUSTS!!!”
The Four Horsemen’s like
“‘Bout that time, eh chaps?”
…
“Righto.”
So, now the Church is like
“Fuck. We’re dumbasses.”
Goliath is like
“What’s going on, eh?”
Hebrews are still like
“WTF?”
Mt Olympus is laughing at us
and Pontius Pilate is like
“Well, fuck that.”
Shit, now we’ve got a Messiah.
Everyone’s saved
‘cept Hebrews
and they’re still like
“WTF?”
…
But they’ll be dead soon…fucking Christ deniers.
But
assuming we don’t condemn ourselves up,
us Christians just have to worry about
Jesus breaking off from the Kingdom of Heaven…
to go hang with the Muslims…
Palestinians can come too.
THE END!
