hey boss, if it enhances productivity, does it mean we can work less hours?

imagine now somehow combining its sensor data with outputs from a LLM everyone would think that their roomba has become sentient

halo is retro for a 25 year old

well it is not just that, websites stopped working properly. I almost always run into a problem trying to book a ticket from an airline company’s website.

the church of uncle bob would like to speak to you about the sins of commenting.

Now now, I am sure what he meant was they can’t make enough profit to bring billions for its shareholders

there was a time when it confidently claimed that Turkey had some landmass in the southern hemisphere, it has come a long way since then

That is what happens when you mix a fucking CEO with tech “How many workers can I fire to make more money and boast about my achievements in the annual conference of mega yacht owners” where as the correct question should obviously have always been (unless you are a psychopath) “how can I use this tech to boost productivity of my workers so they can produce the same amount of work in less amount of time and have more personal time for themselves”

Also these idiots always forget the “problem solving” part of most programming tasks which is still beyond the capability of LLMs. Sure have LLMs do the mundane stuff so that programmers can spend time on stuff that is more rewarding? No instead lets try to fire everyone.

I would definitely let him in

my exact thoughts, every single employee who received this email should have sued his ass. You are only required to work as much as your contract details and this a clear instance of workplace bullying

you should really consider frequency among non billionaires and among second+ generation billionaires. not that I have data on it but I really do think growing up in such an environment does inflate your sense of self idea worth and therefore such a person is more likely to act in this way (but not claiming at all that they are the only ones)

“Rush, who saw himself as an innovator like “Steve Jobs or Elon Musk,” the complaint says, once told Pogue, “At some point, safety just is pure waste.” Rush thought he had found a lighter way to build subs.”

This really summarizes the mindset of most second+ generation rich people. Because this guy lived with a lot of inherited money and power all his life, he assumed that everything that comes out of his brain must be the ultimate truth. So much so that without even a single reservation he happily took his son with him to that journey knowing full well that the submarine was probably violating several critical safety requirements that he deemed unnecessary. We are basically being ruled by such people folks.

I have been reading English books of all kinds for the better part of the last 30 years. Understanding languages is fine but utilising in an impressive and complex way simply does not come very easily to me.

Being a non native English speaker this is actually one of the better uses of LLMs for me. When I need to write in “fancier” English I ask LLMs and use it as an initial point (sometimes end up doing heavy modifications sometimes light). I mean this is one of the more logical uses of LLM, it is good at languages (unlike trying to get it to solve math problems).

And I dont agree with the pov that just because you use LLM output to find a good starting point it stops being personal.

lets fuck the planet up just a little bit more so that Russia and billionaires can spam the internet with chatgpt bots and create fake images.

because on top of your duties you now have to check whatever the AI is doing in place of the employee it has replaced

yea well there is no way to guarantee that AI wont spew out CP where the child there looks exactly like a child that it has seen in its training set, i.e a child that really exists. so no go

better yet upload gigabytes of senseless text and photos and let Microsoft train their AI on that

“By involuntarily uploading your data to onedrive you also agree for it to be used in training AI models”

and this is why we are going to have a surge in enshittification in every piece of software and engineering around. eagerness and high energy does not replace decade of experience and ability to hold your composure against corporate pressure to do shady shit (if anything eagerness to please enable it)

Normally seeing after how big tech companies use AI, I would agree with him but he prolly just wants X AI to be the next big thing so he is jealous.

given that LLMs and gen AIs are great at talking bullshit and creating presentations, one is a more realistic expectation than the other

it does not look like a derivative at all

The worst part is they don’t seem to realize their responsibility in this as the leading search engine that the majority of the world uses. They seem to have the mindset “our answers are potentially dangerous for users but it is ok we have an army of lawyers”

“Many of the examples we’ve seen have been uncommon queries,”

Ah the good old “the problem is with the user not with our code” argument. The sign of a truly successful software maker.

not gonna lie it would be fun to watch some of those employees who backed up Sam because they were worried about their shares’ values lose their shares because of him and learn a bit about how dictatorships work

So maybe working your engineers 24 hours a day isn’t a great idea?
