As an 41 year old, I’ve actually used rotary phones and classic handsets when I was younger. And damn do I miss them. There was a distinct enjoyment in being able to properly slam down a phone when you wanted to make a point. Same thing with flip phones: you KNEW when someone hung up in a huff. Can’t quite get that point across on a smartphone.
I also miss being able to properly shoulder a handset to keep your hands free.
I can see limited use for a land line if you changed your cell number and then only gave out the land line number to companies. There are probably cheaper ways utilizing Google voice numbers of protecting the privacy of your main cell number though.
We all know landlines won’t be coming back. They can try and make it cool with some fancy stock photos but mobile phones have killed them long time ago.
They’re going to popularize handsets that look and function like old bell deskphones. Slide your cell phone inside the charger, and you can press buttons and use the handset via bluetooth.
Literally this they never left. I have like 3 point & shoot digital cameras laying around for when actual events come up and my low tier trash phone camera won’t suffice.
They still use them in photography classes my guy.
This is utter fuckin nonsense.
Not a single zoomer gives a fuck about landline phones, not even Zillennials who grew up with landlines.
These are a novelty, a fad, that’ll wear off within a week.
Is everyone here talking about corded handsets when they say landline?
In my country landline doesn’t exist anymore. Now you need to plug a handset into your modem for VoIP. Landline was the direct copper circuit in the ground. You can’t bring back a technology that has been decommissioned. That’s like saying Gen Z is bringing back the 2G mobile network.
For the most part, I believe in the US at least, that land lines are all VOIP but still referred to land lines because they are hardwired at a set location. Similar to how the internet was on dial up, DSL and fiber but it’s all called the Internet.

This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.
Are we? Hadn’t heard. Nobody is really calling each other in the first place anyway
Landlines are dead, but I recently installed a VoIP phone because cell service at my house isn’t great.
It is nice being able make calls reliabily now and the kids have a way to call 911 too.
No they’re not, no they don’t.

They’re selling them at Urban outfitters, Target, Best Buy, etc now hah!
Fucking hell, 40 for a plastic phone.
Definitely not targeting some silly ticktock users.
Here’s one from Best Buy
That’s Ooma, an ip phone service. You can do it for free with Google voice.
With retro princess phone bundle 😂
Bruh, they never left. It’s called professional photography.
Unless they mean the point and shoot variety that cell phones had replaced?

I thought people below a certain age hate voice calls and will only text.

This is fucking stupid. It’s also probably like six people doing this.
That’s basically what the article says but admitting that would make for a bad headline.
The classic joke: “Do you know how journalists count? ‘One, two, trend’.”
Its from nypost, which is garbage
land line quality far superior to cell phones though
