I am all for a crackdown on social media, but please apply the same level of scrutiny of all social media, including Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, X, Reddit, etc.

But it doesn’t take into account the build quality or the quality of the components, like screen, keyboard, etc.

To be honest ChatGPT pretty much killed the fun of programming.

Why don’t they start with OpenAI and other LLM vendors, because they are the biggest copyright infringement abusers of all time?

I mean they hiked considerably the prices and then wonder why their cars aren’t selling well. Plus VW cars are very boring.

And you as an analytics engineer should know that already? I am using some LLMs on almost a daily basis, Gemini, OpenAI, Mistral, etc. and I know for sure that if you ask it a question about a niche topic, the chances for the LLM to hallucinate are much higher. But also to avoid hallucinating, you can use different prompt engineering techniques and ask a better question.

Another very good question to ask an LLM is what is heavier one kilogram of iron or one kilogram of feathers. A lot of LLMs are really struggling with this question and start hallucinating and invent their own weird logical process by generating completely credibly sounding but factually wrong answers.

I still think that LLMs aren’t the silver bullet for everything, but they really excel in certain tasks. And we are still in the honeymoon period of AIs, similar to self-driving cars, I think at some point most of the people will realise that even this new technology has its limitations and hopefully will learn how to use it more responsibly.

How do you download your game on SD OLED?
I need to keep the display on the whole time and considering how slow my internet connection is, it is a lot. I am surprised that there is no option to download the games while in standby or sleep mode. I know that the Deck lowers the brightness but it seems to be awfully ineffective and of course I am also worried about display burn in.

I bought two games:

  • The farmer was replaced - a simple Idle game, where you need to use a Python like code to automate a farming drone with farming hat that is doing the farming for you and the complexity of the tasks is increasing progressively. This game is in early access and has no discount but the price is 7€, so hardly breaking the bank.
  • European Truck Simulator 2 - because it was just 2€ and it looks chill, even though I am not much into car racing games.

If you know what RAM is, and you bought an 8GB Mac in the last 10-years, then you are likely self-aware of your limited demands and/or made an informed compromise.

Or you simply refuse to pay $200+ to get a proper machine. Like seriously, 8GB Mac’s should have disappeared long ago, but nope, Apple stick to them with their planned obsolescence tactics on their hardware, and stubbornly refusing to admit that in 2023 releasing a MacBook with soldered 8Gb of RAM is wholy inadequate.

Jokes aside but in the not so distant future you will be able to clone your image and voice and just pay some third-World guy to pretend to be you in video calls while you pay him a cut from the salary

And it is down, I guess someone has hacked it and is sending tons of requests that crashed the server as it returns 504 at the moment.

Heck, even my bank app informed me that they changed their privacy policy to allow sharing their customers data with advertisers. That’s N26 for the record.

I tend to disagree here. For example if you have vehicle to vehicle standardized communications, vehicles can communicate between themselves the location of cyclists, some road obstacles, etc. generally making the roads safer and reducing the number of fatalities.

Yes, they will make some people more rich, but is this a legitimate reason to obstruct technological advancements? I am sure people were thinking the same way at the cusp of electrification, or automation of some factories, where machines were augmenting the human labor and in the process making those people redundant.

If we think the same way we should never abandon coal power plants and mines because miners might lose their job, right?

I wonder what you then think about people who drive after heavily drinking or taking drugs. To be honest, I have more faith in technology than in humans.

Not to mention that self driving can probably solve some other problems too, like traffic jams caused by erratic driving behavior of humans, etc.

If you have vehicle to vehicle communication, it is possible to adapt the speed of all the vehicles on the street to avoid them being stuck in a traffic jam.

The same way Israel is solving hunger with AI in Gaza.

Stalin once said, “Net cheloveka, net problemy” (“No person, no problem”).

Hahaha, so instead of reducing their emissions, they are actually increasing them year after year. What a hypocrisy!

What makes you think that they are not scraping Lemmy too? The only reason they might not be is probably how niche Lemmy and the fediverse are, but I am sure there have been people already doing it.

I also have 3440x1440 curved at home and flat at work. My personal recommendation is to get a curved one. But if I have to shop now for a monitor, I will simply get a 4K flat. 32-34 inches. The lost vertical space is a real deal breaker for me and it annoys me.

Ultra wide are nice for example for audio/video editing, where you want to visualise the timeline, but majority of tasks you would do, including gaming on them are better on a standard 16:9 monitors.

That’s a very strange title, I think in the end the US would suffer more, because China would be able to easily replace this talent, but the same cannot be said for the US.

This AI craze propped a lot of companies to new historical highs. It is of course logical that most companies would like to jump on that bandwagon.

Right now we are on the honeymoon period of AI and I can only guess we are fast approaching the limits of what the AI can do.

The DP1.4a supports maximum 4K at 120fps, everything above that is using DSC (display stream compression).and if I am not wrong adds a bit of latency and a bit of processing overhead, because your GPU has to compress the frames. Additionally the compression adds some loss to the equation, but according to reports it is very hard to distinguish it from the lossless picture.

It is not a big deal but it is nice to have support for DpP2.1. DP2.1 has more than double the bandwidth of DP1.4a, meaning that it supports 4K 240fps, introduces FEC (forward error correction) and improves the HDR quality.

The bottom line is that if I shed north of 1K I would like to get something which is future proof.

I am waiting for a 4K monitor at least 120fps, that has proper DP 2.1 support. It is ridiculous that even today most of those monitors are coming with DP 1.4.

New OLED screens are very resilient to burn-ins. You can check for yourself. And mind you, the majority of users won’t have any problems with burn ins because of the way they are using those monitors, this test is far from how the majority of users will use their monitors. https://libreddit.oxymagnesium.com/r/hardware/comments/180cc44/rtings_10_month_update_permanent_burnin_oleds/

Are there any crashes already involving pedestrians? I really wonder how broken those pedestrians are after the hit. I think the chance to survive a hit from a Cybertruck is minimal.

And I am even surprised that it is allowed on your streets.

But this feature requires an extra monthly subscription, that wasn’t included with the package of the YouTubers

True, there is no place in the stock market for ethical companies. Unfortunately, most listed companies care only about their bottom line, no matter the human cost

SteamDeck OLED Ads in the Store
I was wondering since I own the OLED Deck why they are still displaying ads in the store about it. What's the point?

Warranty question about SSD upgrade
I have replaced the original 512GB SSD with a 2Tb one and reimaged the drive. Do I need to keep the original drive for warranty purposes in case I need to return the device, or I can re-purpose it or sell it out?

Did you receive your Deck OLED?
I was wondering how many of you out there who ordered the OLED model on release already got their Deck? Mine is stuck at "packaged items" for a couple of days and I am starting to get anxious when I get it.

Is there a curated list of recommended IoT devices?
Pretty much what the title says. I want some ideas on what smart home devices are good and play nicely with the Home assistant. I know Tuya for example are more or less fine, Shelly are good but overpriced, in my opinion. I am also using Hue, which works great but costs a lot. I am planning to revamp my whole IoT setup and Home Assistant and migrate from Docker running on top of RPi to a VM setup. I have a Sonoff ZigBee gateway and plan to try to add all devices to it.
